I own nor use any vehicles with engines. I do not like the idea of engined vehicles requiring fuel, but is going to happen. I just do not like it.

Since the wiki is not completed yet, I'd suggest we list the fuels in order of efficiency in the tank. If propane works just as well as any, it'd be fine for some people.
But I have the bad feeling that alcohol will rein supreme, as it looks the most difficult process.

The town that one of my characters has just brought back from being 6 feet under, (after over 20 years of trying!!) Will now end up being worse than when he even got there becuase every vehicle the place has will be useless.
I can't see many uses for engines in the future because nobody will bother with them. It'll take more time to get the resources, make the parts and then collect the fuel to make a car than it would to just walk or make a bike.
The only time engines will have a use is when people want to go really long distances and even then it'll most likely to be less hastle to go my boat.
In short - great change

For Some reason or another I can not access page 6 of this thread. so please forgive me for asking something that may of already been said.
BUT
Is this going into affect NOW....
If So what about those on the road between towns.
and
WHAT ABOUT the charcters such as mine that are a good 7 towns from home in the middle of now where with primitive towns all he has gone through. will he have to Walk all the way back home. get some gas then walk all the way back to his vehicle.
If so I want to by some property insurance for what I will have to leave behind while I do so
EDIT by Talapus: Removed double post

I believe it will go into effect in about a month (it will at least be a few weeks). On top of that, existing vehicles will recieve some fuel. You don't have to worry about being stranded, but you ought to consider building some of the machines. I believe that petrol will be the most effecient to make if you have access to oil, but the other fuels provide less effecient alternatives for those who cannot easily acquire or manufacture petrol.

As in RL alcohol should be the least efficient, but this is not RL. As I have seen, alcohol will be the easiest to produce.

Edit button has gone away.
There are many grains and many metals(machines) that will produce alcohol.

Efficiency. How many pixels a day usage. Least used per pixel to most.
Biodiesel
Propane
Gasoline
Alcohol
And as I believe the reverse can be said of easy of making.

Without being able to spell out every deatil at this time, I can quickly say that efficiency rank order will be:
alcohol < propane < biodiesel < petrol
To repeat, all existing vehicles will receive a full tank of petrol. We are planning that the change should take place in roughly four weeks.

I don't have any characters that have access to engined vehicles.
Ha
The rest of you are screwed.
Seriously, though. Fingers crossed that this works very well. It will certainly require cooperation, which can only be a good thing. It will also encourage trade. Which can also only be a good thing.
But, one thing does worry me. Who uses engined vehicles the most? Traders.
Now, if traders are having to trade or spend time getting fuel, that means, less trade, thus negating the possible benifits.
The problem with trading is that it's difficult to work with people, and difficult to develop a single location as a 'base', where fuel (for example) can be made and stored.
Anyway, ignore me. This is just dumb conjecture. I'd rather have held my tongue and just waited to see what happens. It could well be a great improvment. but I'm sure many others will be vocal and say just why it's the worst thing ever, since the last worst thing ever...
