Just in case it's worth pursuing this, a status bar seems perfectly reasonable. Maybe the sneezes are a binary yes/no, but this fainting/over-eating thing obviously isn't as the quantity of food consumed varies, thus the severity of the symptoms can easily be represented.

I would be in favour of hourly symptoms reported:
Eg
You feel faint ..
You feel week..

although, like eating I don't think they should necessarily cause the list of characters to light up as that would be annoying..

However a health/illnes bar or a sick/well flag is frankly ridiculous.
Most illness start in your body well before any outward symptoms develop, and it is not at all unusuall for symptoms to come and go during illness.

Of course if a 'Wellness' bar were to replace tirednes, hunger and also incorporate illness possible even damage, to an overall feeling of wellness I would be entirely in favour of that HOWEVER that would do entirely the opposite of what people here are suggesting,

How often have you come home from work/college/school and felt rough but wondered if you were tired, starting an infection, depressed or just hungover. Our bodies tell us things aren't right but rarely tell us exactly what's wrong!

It would totally clutter up the events and be really annoying, since in most cases you cannot do anything about it. It would be better to have it somewhere else. If it has to be visible then have it somewhere around the age and spawnpage, but not getting printed several times during the day.

Being Ill does tend to clutter up your life... there's nothing like a nagging pain or headache. I did say it shouldn't be a reportable (light up your character) event!

I would prefer to not have a meter. I would like to have more symptoms. Why don't we just add them to the character page. It isn't cluttered enough yet with the functional meters, the perpetually unfunctional other meters (I guess Cantrians do have an appendix and prostate after all), the age, the project, the skills, the skill checklist, the strength indicator, and the name yet.

Well alright then, just as long as you wouldn't have to see the status of others in the events. It looks totally retarded when a dozen people sneeze on an exact same moment. Could there really not be a random delay? And the approximate illness status of others should be visible in their character description, ie "has a runny/red nose" "looks a bit/rather/very miserable/awful/unwell/ill/sick/feverish/pale/nauseous/absent".

Is my character still feeling a bit faint, or is the increased food consumption part of his metabolism now? I wish I could check my character description page to see if he does still feel faint...

· He is in his fifties and is awkwardly working on project 'Farming to get spinage'. He seems stronger than average. He feels a bit faint. He wears: a small piece of hide that covers the groin and pelvic region leaving little to the imagination [undress].

[inventory]

· You can see him holding: a brand new Guitar.

Yeah, I personally don't have much objection to a "feels faint" kind of text line on the character description page, only visible for your own char. And something similar for the other diseases.

I certainly don't want a "level of sickness indicator" or something like that. Not everything should be reduced to numbers or bars that are derived from numbers.

I don't like these 'features', but I have little to say in the matter. I would like to know whether characters of mine are ill or not.

I would like to see when my character is ill.

A message that a character is feeling a bit faint, tells me he felt faint at that moment. It does not tell me he's still feeling ill or whether he's feeling better again.
The original suggestion... not necessarily requiring a bar, just a message. In true Cantr text style... :P

So can we get the text indicator move to the approved (or better yet, implimented) section?

Yeah, we can implement something along those lines ... the text indicator on the character description page, that is, visible to oneself only, and no indication of seriousness of the disease, or at least, not too much info.
