Yes, it will allow for rapid development in cities at a much faster rate, rather than running back and fourth multiple times for a single resource...

Dang...

Its still not going to be a big help in places were all they have are little pathways and sand roads.

*imagines himself dragging 50 kilos of stone through a sand road with a wooden cart*

But its great that it finally got implemented
Thanks PD! :D

Horses and donkeys

Postby Sicofonte » Wed Jun 07, 2006 5:25 pm

Hmmm... a man full of stuff goes at speed 7. On a path this cart goes at 3,6 if empty (only the passenger), at 3,1 with 15 kilos, and at 2,6 full (30 kilos).

I think this vehicule is only suitable as container. You can still carry more stuff in less time walking than with that piece of junk.

I want to hook a horse in front of my stucked cart!

Yes. But if you only wish to go one round with resources then this is really good.

Why does PD get the thanks? I believe Chris helped with the naming problem, but it was Agar of the RD that added it to the database. One thing to note, is that the cart has a minimum speed of 3. It is true that it is faster to haul the resources by hand if on a path, but on a sand road the cart is faster. This is not intended to be a vehicle that improves your speed, but rather your carrying capacity.

I don't think that's true, even an ordinary bike would be way better that this cart. Like Sicofante said, I think it's mainly going to be used for storage (and very welcome too, even if the thing didn't move at all we've been needing a lockable container like that for a long time.)

I agree with what you said in another thread about radios, but I don't see how this is the same thing at all.

Before you simply couldn't carry enough stuff on foot + food and tools and weapons to make a trip worthwhile, and I always thought the game was completely backwards in the way it required you to own your own building with iron and steel production and then make a bike before you can even consider going trading anywhere besides the next town over...and there's no reason why it should be physically impossible to make some sort of simple device for hauling stuff anyway, especially if Cantrians are smart enough to make cars.

MAybe you should just be glad it wasn't a backpack or travois instead of a cart...both would be a lot easier to build and more realistic too. :)

It is better to go on foot if on a path, it is indifferent on fooot or with the cart if on sannd road, and it is better if on paved road.

Anyhow, I think it is easy to get bikes on places developed enough to have paved roads. Then... the carts should be habitual on evolved (cantr) civilizations, only used by newspawns :).

Marian, Amen for all you said (not including my nick, it is Sicofonte, not Sicofante ;))

Well than, for the sake of the lazy newspawn, stop complaining . If you have a large wieght you need to transfer and the road is a path, than do it in 2 trips. But if its better than a sand road, then take the cart.

I plan to use my cart wisely, inorder to improve the paths around me to sand roads. They were started, and sand is not nearby, so even thuogh it is slower, I have a character currently gathering sand to stick on the wagon, and sloooowly transport it to the road construction project, so that in future years, all may use their carts along such a road much more efficiently.

It may be slower, but it's easier than going back and forth, for that particular character, at least. :)
