I like this one. Think about the current investment graph for cars... you spend all those years getting all the iron, steel, and rubber... and then, when you've finally done it, you get a free ticket to drive anywhere the road leads you (or even, *anywhere* on a dirt motorcycle)... so I say, make vehicles cheaper, but have them require fuel.

It would also be another step away from the sole iron base of the economy... I'd just *love* to see those desert oil barons!

Oh and I don't think they should consume fuel "all the time", only when they're actually driving/sailing.

Thought: what about a "cruising speed" of, say, 70% of maxspeed, being the most efficient in terms of fuel consumption, but with the possibility to speed up if you're willing to pay the fuel price?

Okay well, if veichles are to require fuel there should be many types of engines for different types of fuel.
Coal, wood, steam (water), oil, gasoline, propane, charcoal...

Or perhaps, all engines can run on any fuel, it's just the gas tanks would be different. The whole reason I wanted cars to burn fuel was because the iron based economy needs to be changed around.

That's what I said, ahoyhoy. Otherwise we will just have one master engine and everytime somebody scours the internet to find something that has ever been used as a fuel for an engine, you'd be able to put it in the tank of your car and drive on it.

If you guys want to stop having this economy to not be so heavily biased towards iron....

Why not let us tame horses? :)

Cars and motorcycles are unlogical in the first point, if this suggestion would ruin them then hooray! Since the technology level in Cantr really doesn't support them. Oil doesn't have to be the only choice though. You could make your car run on a steam engine, or with sails, or pedals. Alcohol-fueled cars would be interesting too. And where do you usually find oil huh? In the deserts. Go to the desert.

And I'd really wanna see a horse-powered car.

They're called 'Carriages' or 'Carts', depending if you're hauling passangers or goods. :)

Oil is also found in the ocean and swamps. But I think once horses are brought in many people would not care so much about cars requiring fuel. Horses would be the cheap transportation system and cars would be a luxary for the rich.

Cantr is becoming more and more like the early 20th century isn't it? Perhaps some day we'll have telegrams, railroads, guns, primitive tanks, battleships, U Boats, and mustard gas and we'll have a world war on our hands.

I want horses. I've wanted horses since I'd found out you couldn't have them.

If cars will need fuel, I'm building a bus, some rope and a bullwhip. Be like a land based slave galley.
Reality was never my strong point.

I don't like this idea, we already run a risk of running out of food.
