It should be possible to cancle a project when nobody is working on it. And you should get (100 - n)% of the resources back, if the project is progressed to n%.
That would be realistic and nice

That would indeed be a good solution, if we only could get someone to implement it.

The fly in the ointment... You want to build a house. No stone on that location. Have to ferry it in a bit at a time.
Get most of it there and pirate comes along. Cancels project. Walks off with all your stone.

Sounds like an interesting event. I fail to see what would be wrong. I thought Cantr wasn't a collection and management game.

I meant for gathering projects, those can be made cancelable in that manner without any problems.
For building things maybe something like (10-number of years since starting) number of hours to cancel and get 75% back?

Yes, but I'm pointing out that there is a downside. *grin*

dont allow anyone but the owner to cancel projects and if a project isnt worked on for so long send out some kind of warning note or message on the project info giving them a week to extend the time on there project because sometimes it does take a while for 1 project to get done when the resources for it are limited and ur on an island and have to wait for a ship to return with whatever it can carry =) i think that would work better than just deleting it after 60 days if its not done =)

Maybe do it copyright style. Lifetime + x years.
So a project can't be cancelled by other character until the creator is dead.

Meh, Cantr is a social game. Why hardcode protections that should be managed by social conventions?
I say, working in a project without the proper tools should move the progress bar backwards until complete undoing and partial resource recovery. Anytime, by anyone.

Hmm.. that can be used to determine other character's death. For example: a sailor before starts a voyage begin a project (collecting etc.) and chief of settlement every one year tries to cancel the project. If he can it mean that sailor is dead.

What hurdles are we awaiting to clear to get this implemented?

Tracking who has added what to a project will probably need some database changes. But making it so that the resources return to the initiator or drop on the floor wouldn't be that hard to implement.

I don't think they should go back to those who added them.

After how long can people cancel projects of others? Two years?
