This whole thing is irritating me. In the other hand, it would be very handy to have an eat all you can to heal button, but in the other hand I hate that everybody will just do the math themselves if the program doesn't do it for them. What if there was a random deviation to healing, then it would be impossible to know how much exactly it would take to heal.

You don't want to do this either. This all but GUARANTEES people will eat small amounts in repeated succession, and in a fight give an advantage to those with faster connections and AGAIN, to bots. Bots can eat a small amount, check damage then eat again if not low enough, almost instantly.

There is no ideal solution here, I don't think, and I have a feeling a "eat until fully X" is the least-worst option.

I guess this goes to the whole "why purge the stomach?" question. If you allow the stomach to digest slowly, as needed (i.e. when more damage sustained, or next eating tick), there is no reason why someone shouldn't just eat to satiation. Then bots don't have any advantage. I had thought this was the original conception of the thing.

That being said, and although I haven't actually used the ability yet, I approve of the "eat on dmeand" ability. Thanks.

Because, we don't want 4 characters to eat 8000g of brandy and then go on a multi town killing spree while practically invincible because they don't have to heal manually.

I'm really not trying to criticize or be demanding but I would appreciate having it show how many grams are needed to heal. I know it's being discussed but I hadn't thought of this until just experiencing it:

I "cheated" and used the wiki because my char had 1% of damage. Had him eat what the wiki says will heal 1% but it was actually over that amount of damage. Without knowing the Exact amount of damage, it can't be calculated. I ate 10g of healing food at a time until the bar didn't have a hint of red on it. This char does not have healing food to spare so I had to be careful.

Yes, I could have left it with a slight amount of damage showing but it DOES affect how well they work and it's somewhat critical that he's able to work as efficiently as possible.

(OT but I have to say it) This thread title makes me laugh. Sounds like a bill from a plastic surgeon.

Purging happens because if someone ate say, 8000 grams of potatoes in one sitting, only 200 grams would get digested a day and their healing capacity would be reduced for 40 days.

What if only what was used got purged at the eating tick, and the rest would remain as healing/nourishing potential, so if you got wounded after eating too much healing food and didn't eat more before the eating tick, it would then use what's in your stomach to heal you? This would stop the excess from going to waste without causing instant auto-healing. And if someone got themselves constipated by eating 8000 grams of potatoes, that would be their own problem.

I could be ok with that, but couldn't people just plan attacks around eating ticks? Or isn't that really a reasonable concern?

*sigh* much as I hate to say it Doug, people are always out to game the system, no matter what you do. That's why RPers rule. We're here to have fun, not trying to find loopholes. :D

Someone might try but I doubt that would work very well. I wouldn't rely on it. If no one did hit you back before the eating tick, you'd be stuck with limited healing capacity for the following day while the battle was still raging on.

one concern is... if i filled up on onions, then went to battle just before the eating tick, got my @$$ kicked,, the tick healed me. i did more battle, got injured, then ate 8000 onions to heal up... those 8000 onions are now in my stomach so i can go fight just before the next eating tick to auto heal and double the use of the onions.. it's like a cow chewing cud crossed with a rabbit and it's well known recycling habit.... but worse :S
did that make any sense?

also this would mean the game would have to catalogue the contents of a person's stomach like fuel in a vehicle engine except you cannot see what is in there, right now stomach contents become just that, a bulk of non descript stomach contents.

They are "cataloged", it records what type it was. I'd just need to make a difference between digested and undigested food.

If you ate 8 kilos of onions, the most you could heal at once was 99.99 % because any more and you'd be dead. Let's assume you got hit just that much and right then the eating tick happened. It would digest 6699 grams from your stomach, leaving 1301 grams that would not get digested because at that moment there was nothing more left to heal. So the max you could eat after the tick was another 6699 grams. So you could heal another 99.99 %, that's two shield-bypassing hits. After that you would couldn't heal for the whole day. And even if you only ate the 6699 grams before the eating tick knowing that any more than that would only get spent two days later, most likely you'd either have closer to 50 points of damage at the tick, or 0 damage, or you'd be dead.
