(I've been meaning to make this thread for a while)
AOL, is it realistic that your char can off four experienced AC gangbangers? Usually the DM or Moderator has a part in combat...so far you've outfitted yourself with money, a gun, and three allies without any help from the moderator. Sure you're not being a tad bit unrealistic or unsporting here?
Just a thought.
In other news, maybe we can have a bit of discussion here on characters...how much your char is like you, etc.
I'll start: Johnny Freeman is basically me. The clothing, shoes, jewelry, accoutrements, and belt buckle are all parts of my daily wardrobe. I don't usually go out drinking to celebrate midterms, nor pass out on a couch. But other than that Johnny is more or less a facsimile of myself.

Hehehe. Turi is somewhat like me... At least the face and hair part... But I'm not yet eighteen, my brother is only eleven, and he's never wrecked my Ford Focus ZX5 before.

(Schme sent me a PM of condolences about the car part.) I also wear different clothes than Turi, and I stopped carrying around swiss army knives a few months ago. And my little brother never gets me any cool gifts.

I see you've changed your name to East, West (lord that sounds odd when you say it.....)
I had not really thought we would need one of these, but it does appear that we may.
The discussion on the characters sounds like a good idea. It cannot hurt, in any case.
Actually,
Anarchist-On-Line, I was planning to bring it up. To be able to kill five armed men with your hands and a knife, it seems to me to be terribly unrealistic. In all my life, I've never seen anything similar happen, and although someone who is advanced Ju-jits-su can be a terribly good fighter, (been doing it for years) the key to it is getting the hell out of the way.
I don't doubt that he could get himself out of the way, but to kill them all seems to me completly rediculous.
Also, as they said, I'm afraid I have to play the moderator, as I said in the initial post, as it's really the only way to keep a smoothe story and stave off pure anarchy.
I accepted that your guy found some money and a makeshift gun, fair enough, I'll give you that. But you can't decide the shape of the coins, the actions of the non player people, and have Japanese men come from nowhere. I don't know where these Japanese guys came from, so as you can imagine, it would make it rather difficult to fit them in.
See, the reason I did not roleplay the begining of the attack was because I thought that either your character might draw the gun and fire, or try to talk it over with the men. I had not anticipated the entire fight being done.
Sorry to confuse you. I suppose that was my fault, really, I wasn't so clear. Sorry about that. But I'm afraid we may have to change that quite some.
I am Schme, master of long winded diatribes!

As for the characters and suchlike, I manifest myself in a number of places, as do many of my friends and aquintances.

Mark is pretty much myself too. The bleakness of his mundane existence is a slightly exagerrated description of my real life. I put him in a routine industry job that I could have gotten with my BS rather than coming to grad school, but the differences between the two at this point in my thesis probably aren't terribly different. I do sit in front of the computer all day and come home in the evenings to collapse in fornt of the TV, I do not have a cat that I share a can of tuna with, though. The ritual meal purchase at the grocery was actually a tribute to Randy, this cool middle aged guy who came to the store I worked at every night and bought that exact same meal. I kind of admired the simplicity of his life and his mild mannered nature.
Uh...anyway. So yeah, there's Mark.
Good job on the game schme! It's a very good idea that is working out pretty good I think.

I agree. It's not heavy-handed like I thought it would be, and a great deal more imaginative than I'd expected. I'm enjoying it.
Oh, and wichita:

Take the red line up to Howard, and the Purple line from there to Davis. Get off at Davis, go two blocks east and turn right.

Sounds like an exetremly cool guy. A very admirable life indeed.
I believe his holyness the 14th Dalai Lama said, and I'm paraphrasing here "There is a reason we should be satisfied with whatever food we have. You see, I could go and eat an elegant and delicious meal, and really enjoy it. But once I have finished, the meal is gone, and will now be turned into something that nobody likes at all. And so, what is the point?"
Your in education, right Witchita?
I have a cousin that works at a pharmacy, of course, he suplements his income by taking people's word on there perscriptions, so to speak.
The sad thing is, with the state of our health care system, that is probably the easiest way to get perscription drugs.
But I digress.

How very nice of you to say. I'm glad your enjoying it as much as me.

Although I've forgoten what heavy handed means, I'm glad you like it. To tell you the truth, I had not thought it would do to well in this forum, although I can't say I do many role playing games, espicially not over the internet.

Were you thinking Clark street in Evanston, wichita?
I gave directions from downtown Chicago accordingly
That's really how you get to Clark from any given El station.
Heavy-handed means "with an obvious motive or moral," like turning this into a morality play about how awful the US's gun laws are or whatever.

No, I just made the street name up. I've been racking my brain tryng to figure out your reference.

My first thought was that it was a reference to The Graduate, but it wasn't exactly fitting.
I've only been to Evanston once for an interview at Northwestern, but now that you metion it I do vaguely remember riding on the purple headed into downtown for the tour of Chicago. That was a good time. I just jumped on the Chicago reference because it was out in the game already and I thought it felt cool. I almost went with Boston, but I've never been there and know much less about the feel of it.

I've changed my post as soon as I was able to get to a computer to do so. Frankly the amount of time I have has suddenly decreased due to personal problems, so if Rick died it would not be a problem. (A little side note is that wasn't me playing Andac, but a non-cantr playing friend. Still both of us think that post was stupid.)

Yah, I thought that was pretty funny.

Oh, I see.
No, I hadn't thought of it.That would have been pretty lame, I should think.
I don't see how the words "Heavy handed" fit into that definition though.
The image that comes to mind is someone giving you a good slap, if you ask me. Perhaps I just don't see the connection. I've never been good at that sort of thing.
Too bad you can't find time to play, Antichrist. I know how it is.
Ah well. If you ever end up finding the time, feel free to join in again. Always glad to have another player.
