Hmm... you might have a point there mortaine. But at least I get cleaning spurts sometimes, because of hormones, actually this time it was before menstruation but probably has something to do with it anyway.

*bangs head against wall* argh! werewolves are werewolves! I can gaurantee you that some old gypsy wives circle wasn't sitting around one day deciding that the best way to ease kids into puberty/menstruation was to make up a vicious wolf-person monster and scare them half to death with stories about it!

Usually monsters' origins are seated in cultural differences or taboos. There's a published theory that Dracula/vampires are a large allegory for the negative Jewish stereotype.

I will, in time, but it's a long theory, and to do it justice I'd want to go find the book that I got it from... which is buried somewhere.

The short of it is that the blood sucking is an allegory of draining the life not only out of people but out of society. How does one draw the life out of society... by drawing its money out. Dracula is written as a man of dark features, short stature, and he is a meticulous hoarder of wealth. He is a man who defied God. He presents a danger to society, luring wealth away, buying up land, infiltrating high society as a foreigner and then preying on good christian ladies.

... it goes on and on, and there are much better examples. I'll see if I can find some direct quotes.

Vampirism is also connected to early Christians because they were said to drink the blood of Christ and get eternal life out of it. Also Hocus Pocus magic words comes from Latin "Hoc Corpus"...

huh, makes you look at old Vlad in an entirly new light...
... maybe it should be Vampires instead of werewolves next game, seein as how it's topical and all

But I don't think vampires have any limit of how many people they can turn onto vampires. And besides they couldn't go out at sunlight at all so it would be easy to spot them.

yes, i had toyed with secretly introducing a vampire role into a game, but I realized it wouldn't make much sense seeing as how they had to be out during the day. I suppose if an unnatural darkness were to cover the land it would be all right...

Or a snowstorm. Actually, all the people could be trapped in a building buried under the snow... or if we want new ideas, how about people in a leaking lifeboat and every day we gotta throw someone overboard waiting to be saved, or then a space shuttle, running out of air and the same thing... never knowing when the rescue will come.

yeah but then you lose that whole suspicion thing which was so great with the last game, unless you suspected someone of cutting of the air supply, or sawing a hole in the boat maybe
