A little request for clarification: is there any rules standard we are using - I know there are a few details that can differ between different chess societies, ect - so it would be best if they were specified for everyone's benifit.

I know only one set of rules: I rule!

But seriously, i only know the standard international chess rules, no variations whatsoever.

Right. We will thus abide by these rules in this thread, and any other threads unless otherwise specified. Someone has to lay down the law.

edit: I feel that I must stipulate that everybody abides by article 12.1. This is clearly the most important element in any game of chess.

It's just chess for fecks sake...

Anyway, the rule that most often causes kerfuffle is castling. I stick by the guidelines that say neither the king nor the rook used can have moved, but not the 3.8 a. ii. (2) a. - I usually play such that castling can escape check, and the rook can sit on an attacked square. but, for clarification, I'm happy to roll with the guidelines you posted.

About the castling, I just felt that a standard needed to be specified before there was some disagreement - but since you're the thread starter, we can abide by your rules.
