The Add/Swap/Change/Delete Game

Rules:
We start with a word and the next poster can do one of the following with it:
- Add one character OR
- remove one character OR
- change one character OR
- swap the place of two characters (which do not need to be adjacent)
For example:
hat > hats > hates > gates > grates > rates > rats > tars > stars > sitars
and so on.
If it turns into a sentence then that's alright. In fact, that would be great.
The characters can be letters, numbers, or spaces.
Punctuation can be added freely where necessary and doesn't cost a move.
All words must be real words.
If you can't come up with anything then you can cancel what the previous person did, but try to avoid that.
