Ship Loire, Position, sailing in clear waters westward.


"Deck there! Sail ahead of us, looks to be a transport of some kind, Monsieur!"


Captain Pie looks upwards and nods to the lookout, "A double tot of rum for that man."


Ship Sparrow, position sailing clean seas heading south east.

"Sir" Says First Officer Joo "Lookout reports one of our transports sighted off the port aft quarter, what course shall we set?"




*The Marine Leiutenant comes back up on deck just as Joo is delivering his report* "A transport, eh? Could be pickings for the enemy, sir... perhaps we should intercept and inspect... what I want to know is, why did we not hear from the lookout as soon as it was sighted?"

[OOC: Are you talking about our lookouts? They told us!]

Hm. Any other ships in the vicinity I should know about? As for course of action, let's ignore them and go on our way.

Captain, what if it happens to be a ship full of those bloody french? I say let me release a broadside at them, just a warning shot.

[Crosshair]

OOC: No... the first officer told you. The Loire's deckhead sighted them... Lookouts are supposed to shout as soon as they sight a ship))

Go see why the lookout didn't report to us Lieutenant. Trex, feel free to sink the ship if you like. It doesn't seem important, so if its one of ours nobody will really care nor will they know that it was us out here in the middle of the ocean.

*he salutes* Alrighty sir!
*he marches down below the decks and yells* Men, prepare to fire. I want a quater of the cannon loaded with chain shot, the rest, regular cannon! Load, and on my signal you are too fire!
*As the sailors slowly load the cannons, put in powder, and move it all in, Trexdino shoots one of his pistols at the ship as the signal. With a gigantic BOOM all the cannon fire toward the ship*

As the ships close and the Sparrow fires, the Transport pulls up a British flag. The shots thud into the hull, killing sailors, destroying equipment and causing the mizzen mast to fall to the deck. Officers and men run about the decks, clearly confused and panicked, dousing fires and tending to wounded... though most of the men on the floor are dead...

The men look enraged and saddened as they see the british flag rise out of the smoke. Many grumble, and many merely stare at the ship, from which black smoke rises...


*The Leiutenant, at the top of the deckhead and seeing the lookout drunk at his post, clings to the mast as the ship below him fires and rocks... he looks in horror as the flag is raised and shouts down to the Captain, although his voice is lost in the noise of battle*

As if by a miracle, the Transport fires back, shots wild and wide, cutting through spars and sails, one shot ploughing through a knot of seamen around a cannon, overturning it and turning them into offal and screaming bodies. A Midshipman staggers up to the quarter deck, blood pouring from a wound in his side... "Sir, we've been hit badly below the waterline... *he coughs and falls to the deck on his face.*

Mm. Idiot lookout. I want him executed. Shame that the ship wasn't the Loire, our target should've been in these waters right now. *frowns and heads to the Lieutenant* It seems I've made a mistake. Due to the incompetence of our lookout I had to assume the worst and open fire at it in case it was the Loire. That ship should be around here, get a fresh man up there. *He yells out to Joo.* Get somebody to raise a frenchman flag. If the Loire indeed is in these waters we'll have to be cautious.

What of the transport sir? Perhaps we ought to board and since they are a transport and we are at war, take some suppliess for the upcoming battle.

I suppose we can do that but the cannons will be a problem. And so will the remaining survivors. I'd rather not have any more casualties.

*He quickly delegates a sailor to find and raise a french flag, the marches over to where the wounded men are lying* Get these men belowdecks, and right that cannon *he delegates more sailors to clean up the blood, the moves over to the Captain*

We should fire back, sir and organise a boarding party. We've sustained minimal damage but we need to take control before the situation escalates. *He looks around suddenly and shouts out* Why is nobody on the helm! We need to take evasive action! *He quickly moves over and grabs the wheel himself, steering the ship around the smaller devastated vessel.

"FIRE ANOTHER VOLLEY! MARINES, prepare to board the enemy vessel. All free sailors assist in repairing the ships! BRING THE MUSKETS TO TOP DECK!"

CROSSHAIR! *He storms over the deck* Where is that man? We need the marines assembled NOW!
