No. It was in the middle of the day. Unless I had passed out. Or knocked out. But I doubt that.

So, Mr. Nixit, are you saying that an angel absolved Sheriff Spider of all guilt? I mean, it's not that I suspect him, but.... what *are* you suggesting, exactly?

I'm afraid that, unless the Sheriff provides a credible suspect, or someone can provide more than patterns in the dust as evidence, I must again abstain from condemning someone to death or damnation. I am sorry, but I almost can't believe anyone here could *do* these things at all! Sure, we all have our faults, but.... well, murder?

listening intently to everyone speak, she says in a slightly calmer voice

I have to agree with Mortaine, I almost helped lynch someone yesterday. and I can't possibly do that again.. not unless there is evidence to go on.. she takes a deep breath I will abstain from voting..[/i]

As I said before. Unless I am sure it will save a life I will not vote for any harm to befall anyone.

I hate to do this, but I will not go another night putting myself and my girls in danger.

I'm sorry mortaine, but I will have to say it's you. You are a nice girl, but I think your a little to nice. The way a monster would be if they wanted to be descrete during the day while killing people at night.

I honestly don't think you would consciencely do something like this, but I don't know how you are once the sun goes down...

Shivers just thinking about it.

Miss Sparkle, I hardly think being proper, or *nice* as you put it, ought to put me under suspicion. Why is it that a person must reveal their indiscretions in order to be considered innocent? It's as if one must provide guilt of other crimes in order to be absolved of the larger one!

Be that as it may, however, if you care to discuss with me privately your concerns, I'll reluctantly discuss with you how *nice* I am or not. I think you and I-- both single women with businesses to protect-- have more in common than you may think. Not, perhaps, in the trade we engage in, but in our levels of honesty and lack of self-deception.

To be honest Ma'am, that is not the only reason I suspect you. If you don't mind I will quote you on somethings and tell you some suspicious behaviors I have seen you do. Of course you don't have to explain yourself to me, but as we all know someone here is a murderer and I'm just trying to pay attention to detail so that I can at least be a good citizen and help put a stop to the murders.

You yourself said There are no true innocents in this town, Mr. Floyd, not even you. That opened my eyes to somethings and made me realize you are right. Which means even the unexpected could be behind this...you. Then I watched your behavior when you viewed Surly's body. Her sharp gaze flicks over the corpse and at the other early risers. She pushes her spectacles up her nose, and sighs deeply, her breath showing in the cold morning air like puffs of smoke. Fleetingly, her glance lands on the maps and desecrated book

Your actions did not seem of a nature of someone who is sad from just viewing the body of a friend or a good customer in your case.

Last but not least you have said over and over again you want to hear what the Sheriff says. I didn't think to much of it at first until you said I know I, for one, would still like to hear what the Sheriff has to say about the suspects!

You seem very anxious Miss Mortaine and not the anxious someone has that doesn't want to die, but a guilty anxious like someone is scared that that person has found out something about them.

So until someone can prove otherwise...my vote has to stay. sighs

Miss Sparkle, it's admirable that you pay such close attention to the details. We should all be diligent, and, most importantly, we ought to be grateful for such careful attention. Mr. Surly's death was a blow, to be certain. I suppose you were occupied and did not notice my prayers for his salvation, nor my eulogy on his behalf. Would you have been better pleased if I had torn my shirtwaist and wailed in the streets? Or run amock with grief? At least I chose not to allow myself to sink into debauchery (no offense-- I know it's your trade, and not your vice), or violence, or opium like so many other people in this town.

You are correct that I am anxious to hear what the Sheriff has to say. I've... her lips pucker I've tried to cooperate with.... the color in her cheeks rises. You know, I think I'd rather not brute this part about in public, in fact. If you don't mind inviting me into your parlor, and if no one here would decide it stains my reputation, I would not mind entering your place of trade to discuss those reasons in private. You've said yourself that you don't think, even if I am the killer, that I would do these things by daylight. If you wish, you can invite one of your girls to join us for your safety-- I've no doubt they can be discreet.

Nods

It's ok. I don't think your that stupid to kill me with everyone knowing that you just went inside with me. They would then know for sure you did it.

Smirks then tries to get up with no success...

Um...I know I just accused you and everything, but I hope you have no hard feelings and can help me to my feet.

Holds a hand out to Sparkle to help her to her feet. No hard feelings, Miss Sparkle. I would do the very same thing if I felt strongly that I knew who the killers were.

Follows her into the brothel.
