Pickaxe collection rate

I am collecting diamonds and carrying a pickaxe but the collection rate I am getting is only around 15g a day and not the quoted 30. I experienced a similar problem when I was collecting gold.

Does your character have a low mining skill level?

A character with a very low mining skill when equiped with a pickaxe will work at a slightly faster or similar rate to that of an average skilled person using their hands. The estimated daily yields, assume average skill.

OK thanks.
I didn't experience the same dicrepancy when I was mining magnesium and copper but perhaps they need a different skill
