You undertand it right. It's temporary and due to game maintain/change issues.

I locked the game because of database issues ...
I accidently quadripuled the number of animals
And then the whole database crashed. Recovering it all now (but at the cost, by accident, of about 1/5 or so of the animal population, I fear).

Unlocked.
We now have 183832 instead of 247949 animals
... Sorry about that.

Probably most animals that lived or travelled alone were killed, while those that were in groups are in tact.
I made quite significant changes to animals (in the background) so if you experience any problems, please email
bugs@cantr.net ... I now 'individualised' animals, so even though it still looks like packs of animals, they're not stored as such anymore. This will allow many new features in future.

Jos... Did you know there are now no more toucans in Zuzi?
The residents are blaming chaos... They may not be far wrong.
But yeah, toucans are their national bird, protected and what-not, and there was a serious-sized flock of them.
Gone!

I'd be happy to put a few back if they totally disappeared, in this case ... Are they totally gone from the area?
Must have been very few toucans (i.e. just one) there, no?

If you're taking requests, could Klojt get some desert tortoises back? Can't say how many there were before, but more than 1, I think...

The toucans of Kiii are gone too. You killed them all, Jos! I'm sure there were at least 20, we were protecting them for years.

No Jos, it wasn't just one - the reason I'm bringing it up is because there were a whole flock. Apparently a whole lot of buffalo in Karnon Forest that left too.
Hope this helps, but it looks like lots of places have lost flocks/herds/gaggles/troupes/groups.

Yesterday my town had like 15 tortoises and not there's not a single one.
Was this a delayed reaction to the change?

Olip West just lost like a herd of 20 horses.... I'm 99% sure they were there earlier (like a couple of hours ago), but when my char went to hunt they weren't there anymore... My char won't hit the horses, which is why I noticed they were gone... I absolutely am sure there were 20 when I last counted them...
