What happened to hemp and cotton bowstrings? I only seem to be able to make silk ones now. And none of my chars have silk.

Silk bowstring = bowstring, it will take any string

This is a result of the recent change to fix the string problem. It looks like Anthony removed the Hemp and Cotton bowstrings from the build menu and changed the requirements to simply string instead of silk string. In his infinitie wisdom though, he didn't change the name to simply "bowstring", which would have made some sense...but...that doesn't really matter now.

What is really important to point out here is that as long as you have string you can still make a bowstring. A bowstring has always been a bowstring, and apparently all bowstrings are silk bowstrings, even when they are made from hemp or cotton, but it is important to point out they are still silk..I...think...I dunno.

If you still have some hemp string, cotton string, or silk string lying in storage or inventory, I think it needs to be reported to bugs@cantr.net so ProgD can cahnge the resource type. I don't know if Hemp bowstrings or Cotton bowstrings are going to cause a problem if they are still out there, as they have always been considered simply "bowstring" technically speaking.

Is it confirmed that all of the old strings have been changed to plain string? One of my characters still has some hemp string left, and I want to make sure that it was supposed to already have been changed, so that I don't add to the flow of e-mails requesting bugs be fixed if I don't have to (although they never did fix the problem I had with the steel bak-na that I had reported)

Thanks Talapus - No - currently no change has been made to existing stocks of string. Please generally don't contact bugs@cantr.net about this issue . We are aware of it .

From String - which is now locked

What I think has happened:

All occurences of the old strings (hemp, cotton, silk) have been replaced by generic "string." If you see old string anywhere, report to bugs@cantr.net so it can be changed to new string.

Machines that used or produced old string (twiner, simple twiner, rope machine) have had those triplets of projects changed to single projects, with new string.

The hemp and cotton bowstrings are no more. The silk bowstring now requires generic string to make. (This weird naming will hopefully be corrected in due time.)

The drying rack is unchanged; it always required generic string to build. Finally that string exists, so people can build them. And there was much rejoicing.

RD information needed for the wiki:
Does the silk bowstring still weigh 20 grams, or does it now weigh 10 grams in accordance with the amount of material used to make it?
Confirm: The twiner and simple twiner are unaffected, except that they now output generic string.
Do the various bows still list "bowstring," not "silk bowstring," as requirement?
Will the silk bowstring be renamed to "bowstring" in the near future?

Currently they have not been changed, Please don't contact ProgD about this issue for the moment.

Does this mean " It will be changed..eventually " Or "Make more string if you need it that badly ?

On a related note: why does half the string disappear when you make it into rope? Does it turn into some mysterious form of energy, known only to Cantians? Or does your factory get increasinly choked up with invisible fluff?

On that same note, how long would it take to make a towel completely disappear in the drier...having it ALL end up in the lint screen?

Sorry, back to topic...

I mailed a bowstring problem to bugs@cantr.net, before I read I shouldn't do that.

My character, Laika Sprotsha in Akypor, wants to make bowstrings.

She has:
350 grams of cotton string
A bone knife
A Server
Access to a building with a String jig.

She can start projects for bowstrings ("Manufacturing a silk bowstring"),
but when trying to add the cotton string, the following message is shown:
"ERROR: This project does not need any (more) cotton string.="

She's ready to set sail, but for these 3 bowstrings. She really doesn't want to leave without them for good reasons and there's another character waiting to leave with her.

Could my cotton string be changed to the required type of string or should I be doing it some other way?

All hemp, cotton, and silk string should be replaced by string now. This goes for bowstring too. Running projects may still generate specific string now; these will get replaced temporarily to string; contact bugs@cantr.net if you're in a hurry, and we'll run it for you.

Bow making projects may still require specific string; if you want to add generic bowstring as a replacement, contact bugs and we'll change one instance of your generic string to the type required so you can add it.

Of course, you're welcome to contact us if you have any specific problem as well.

Jur.
