Died while traveling
So what happens to all the stuff my character was carrying when he died? I mean, no one can pick it up since it's on the road, right?

Not entirely true ... They end up at the location you are travelling from. At least, that's been my experience.
So if you step on the road, move a little bit down the road, then turn around, even if you are killed after only going 5% from the town you left, the stuff goes all the way to the town at your back, that you never got to.
A bit odd, but I'm pretty sure something like that happened when Ranger John Locke killed the guy that stole Hafter's mud and attacked some rangers.

Reality was never my strong point.

Completely offtopic, but it would be really cool to have a transport system based on that. Load a character with 15000g of stuff, have him step onto the road and turn back, and kill him. Highly impractical, and it would be a job to get a character to sacrifice himself like that, but it might be useful in emergencies.
Now that I've said it, I'm waiting for someone (TBR remnants? Barons? Nick's chars?) to do it, or for ProgD to plug the loophole. I'd much rather it be the former, since it'll be so much fun.

Thank you for confirming what I always suspected.
It's hard to confirm myself short of a CR breach...

I think with TBR moving to a new island, they won't want to be killing off people. Keeping a population can be difficult for a small colony.
As for the Barons, they seemed pretty sad after Baron died from my experience, I don't think they'll be any signifigant threat from now on. Or large enough to need that kind of infastructure; besides, they have a car, all that is rather inconvenient.
And my only character who has weapon fodder locked up for dispoal
