So I was under the impression that boats on land could not be docked individually.....up until someone stole my galleon in Brunoi Fields a few days ago. No one ever got on it and no one was on it to begin with. Whats up?

Read the many boat threads, TSL. You are way late to the "Hey, some dude in a dinghy stole my boat while I was gathering asparagus party."

I got the impression it was this lady in her fifties, the player came bragging to me how they'd just stolen a huge load of potatoes and valuables. And I thought it can't be this place since there were no items, but you were damnit keeping them on the galleon *slaps forehead* Ok, boats should not be stealable that easily.

I hope all these opportunistic boat stealers are staying in character and not just using the fact that they happen to have a dinghy and then learn on the forums that they can easily use it to steal someones giant ship. So their formerly law-abiding char suddenly gets the urge to row out and steal a ship. This would be using OOC information to influence your chars behavior. We all know that happens when there are changes in the game mechanics but when it involves seriously messing up other chars it is a different story.
For instance, if this lady in her 50s has no history of being a theif it would be very out of character (and therefore a possible CR breach) for her to trespass on a ship much less sail it away.
I know people say they have "secret" bad guys who are making evil plans while they sit around growing potatoes but this scenario would be taking advantage of an unexpected change of game mechanics similar to taking advantage of a bug.

If it's not considered a bug it should be.

Not a bug, just an extremely ill-considered change, apparently made out of process. Was there any discussion before the change was made?
EDIT: The change has been reversed. Consider this topic closed.

Yeah its closed except I got shisted out of a galleon. If whoever took it brought it back bc they know they cheated....that'd be noble of them. But the hand of Jos refuses to turn back time and in doing so has killed the Newspawn Movement.

You can't force people OOC to act against their character. Let's face it, I was there for a while, witnessing this theft, the town was mighty sleepy and I don't think I heard the Newspawn Movement mentioned at least very often, nor was there introduction of people in this movement I've seen with my other characters before, so I assume them dead or sleeping. So you people were neglecting the upkeep of that ship. Imagine that it was in no way chained to the shore. A thing like this happening wouldn't make people give up, it would make people invent means to prevent such thefts in the future, and also they would try to find means to get this ship back.

Hey, I missed this thread, and I have few things to add:
a) It WAS a bug. i.e. an unitentional side-effect of a programming change
which has now ben reversed.
B) The Newspawn Movement was alive and well up to this point. But three of it's most active chars had left town in a longboat in a futile attempt to chase a petty pirate., and several others were workin indors. It was also undergoing a change of name, so people weere unsure what to call it, at this point. That would account for nobody mentioningt he Movement by name. Anyways, when the threee left town, the Movement had a 20-strong membership, and by the time they returned it had shrunk to about half-a-dozen, so TSL was right to say that the theft killed the Movement (which is now down to four , due to continuing deaths by sleeping-sickness). The older members had worked for almost ten years towards building that Galleon. It was the focus of their lives.
C) They'd left it docked to the land in the spot where they origally built it,
so they could keep an eye on it until they were ready to board it,, knowing that if they moved it to the harbour, somebody could break in unnoticed , and knowing that they wouldn'yt ever be able to dock it to the land again, if they moved it ('cos alleonsCAN'T dock directly to land of course. but it clearly was docked to land , at this point, as evidenced by the fact they cross cross back and forth between land and ship without any difficulty. Like everybody else in Cantr, they assumed it was safe from marauding vessels whilst docked , which asumption is normally correct)
