We have 400g of string...and it is just string...not cotton, hemp or silk. It cannot be used to make a bowstring or anything...What are we to do with it? Can this be converted to a useable string?

I think that is the magic material that can be used to make drying racks. I assume that it was replaced by the three types of string, but that current stocks (or projects making normal string) were not changed. And also that the drying rack project has not been changed (although from I have gathered, it would be a hard change, because to make all of the strings usable on it would allow people to make hemp bowstrings and such out of cotton string).

I think you can dry meat into jerky on a drying rack and also will need to use it to dry herbs (when they are found) for use in medicines.

This is mostly a guess, though. I can't remember if I read this somewhere or if I'm making it up. I'm amazed at how often this is true. :D

That is true. It is for meat and herbs.
