Maps share

Postby marol » Fri Jul 22, 2005 10:28 am

Hello.

Is it legal (and is it not CR breach) to exchange maps between characters that belong to one player? Of course I'm saying about situation when they meet and share maps that do they know already.

Greetings

From what I understand..handing ANYTHING from one charrie to another is not acceptable. Drop the map on the ground....or hand it to someone else, letting your charrie get the copy from someone else.

That does seem to be the most recent intepretation of the rule...

It's just like FIFA and the offside rule... a new guideline every few months.

Huh, guideline for offside rule has been updated few days ago... :) Now player has to touch the ball. But let's go back to the topic...

As I understand (my english isn't well):
1. Giving away map to another character (hand to hand) is illegal.
2. When my character puts map on the ground, another one can take it immediately and it's legal.

Well, my question is -- what's the difference?!

Your characters must also have a reason to be at the same location at the same time, for purposes not planned by yourself, but rather the characters. (And considdering the fact that both characters are probably mapping the same place, as to why you're passing off a map, it would seem to me highly unlikely that both characters 'happen' to pass each other, strike up conversation, and decide to share maps...)

But if two of Your chars has their own businesses in sharing maps, then why not? You forget that the second chars is Yours and deal like with other user's char.

I know that every character "MUST be separate and distinct individual" so If he can do a good business with other char (even if is from the same user) and the other has good business too - no problem with sharing maps.

I didn't say it wasn't possible. I just said it was highly unlikely. And I'm sure PD would have their own questions, legal transaction or not.

OK, so from now each of my characters will drop copy of its map in every place it passes (sharing is good for society, so why not) and will try to gather map information from notes it finds there. It's obvious to me that such behavior is legal.

On island where most of my characters are people share 'description' maps (no drawings, just text). I haven't find REAL map yet. So I'm asking - if all my chars will have drawed maps (of course apropriate to its knowledge) -- will that behaviour make PD suspicious?

And how long it takes to make images available on server from posting it? Is there any limit for one player?

I'm an expert at answering this, as I'm the one that uploads them. Depending on how large the image is, and how many images, it could be uploaded right after I recieve the e-mail (Under the assumption I'm on at the same time you send it), or a day or so later. Shouldn't take much longer than that, really, and if it does, then I have problems. As for a limit, so far, there doesn't seem to be one, as long as the image itself follows the guidelines (Reasonable canvas size, under 70 KB, no offensive content.)

And I seem to be replying to your forum messages shortly after you make them. Other side of the globe. Who cares? You could be up late, I could be up late, doesn't matter, it's always possible :P

I think that someone from PD should clarify the rules.

Guys, please re-read things written about the CR and try to understand the idea behind it. Handing maps between characters of yourself is not legal or illegal - it totally depends on the context / playing style / etc. The CR is not about 'no more than two people on a location', or 'no more than one in an organisation', even though those are useful rules of thumb - the CR is about how it is easier to deal with your own chars than with others, and that should not be abused.

Read the thread on 'ever contacted by the PD?' and read Missy's and my remarks.

I also thought so...

EDIT: I can't find 'ever contacted by the PD' thread
