Limited Vehicle construction to usable areas

It would be nice if someone tried to build a vehicle that could not travel from the area it is built, that there was a warning for them (it doesn't have to prevent it, but just warn first).
For example, I have seen a boat built in a forest that has no sea or lake.
I have also seen a bike cart built in an area that has no sufficient roads for it to leave.

The boat thing is only partial-- you can't build large boats in areas where there is no water access (much to my dismay).

You can build boats that need a harbour (I think that's what it was that was missing) where there isn't one...
This should probably be in 'support'

Maybe a Wiki page on vehicles? By the way, now that it's not a 'find out in the game' culture anymore, does anyone know if a rickshaw can go down a path?

I'd also like to know relative speeds/sizes of boats/vehicles....doable?

I guess with the new rule change, this can be done.
SIGH.
I -so- didn't want to release that information.
I'll do it after the vehicles are broken into parts...

I think this needs to be done in vague terms... "this is a small boat, built for speed" or "a small boat with space maximised for storage" that kind of thing. Vague enough that it isn't toally obvious, but you don't build a boat thinking it is something it isn't.
A fair compromise, Anthony?

No, I think the exact sizes and speeds should be released, as fitting with the new policy.

Yeah..broken into parts just to make things more annoying, and take more time to create...as usual. I agree that ALL of the sizes and speeds should be released.

It's funny how you all complain NOW.
You know, if you do a search for "Vehicles" and "Parts" in the same post by Anthony Roberts, you'll see that I've been talking about and advertising this change for MONTHS AND MONTHS, since before weapons were broken into parts. Pfft, whiners and complainers.
You'll like my changes. I hope.
Anyway, I have to state that exact values should not be released, Nick. The fact of the matter is, releasing such mechanical values aren't really for the players eyes. Kinda like how damage is calculated. You don't need to know the numbers, you just need to know the general drift of things. Same here
No numbers.

I agree with Surly here. I wish we could compromise on the release policy, just to discourage as much OOC influence on game strategy as we can without making it impossibly black box for newer people. Sharing which is a small boat, big boat, fast boat, slow boat seems perfectly reasonable, but to give out the exact cargo capacity and movement rate seems unecessary and should be left to IC research.
Basically we don't want to take away the motivation for IC compilation and research, but we don't want to leave it frustratingly obscure for the newbies, right?

No numbers.
That's easy to say for someone who knows the values.
The change of policy as I understand it dictates that we no longer have to find out these values 'in game'.
It's quite clear to me the exact values should be released.

So we should know the exact damages for weapons?
