Boat Warping

I flysprayed this, but I'm concerned that it might go unnoticed... I undocked my longboat from a location and then I go to set a course and I discover that I'm halfway across the ocean next to the coastline of a completely different continent.

How do I contact the Prog. Dept. to get my boat back to where it needs to be?

I've seen a similar bug report on flyspray, so this must be a reoccuring problem. :?

Please help.

Warps are rare happenings but there are always ghosts in the programming. Another sure bet at getting programming's attention would be to e-mail them at both programming@cantr.net or bugs@cantr.net

I have some expertise with boat warping; in the last four cantr years I've had to have a boat unwarped approximately 8 times.

The last time I undocked to a completely unknown location (as opposed to a town I'd been docked at previously; that bug should now not exist acc'ding to Jos), one of the coordinates (and only one) was off: My y-coordinate was correct, but my x-coordinate was waaaay off. That could put you far away without being completely random.

Just out of interest, did you undock from the Coaster Harbour in Kirrinn?

Cuz that's when that happened to me.

No, I undocked from a relatively undiscovered land. I hesitate to name it because of CR reasons. But when I undocked and saw that I had ended up right next to Siom... well. :?

Okay, thanks RKL, I'll try to get ahold of them that way.

Well, if my guess is correct, it could still be a straight line in the direction of your undocking, with just the other value waaay off.

Unless Siom was the last place you had docked to, previously?

Actually, it was... what does that mean West?

Some boats have a memory for some reason. One of my characters was talking to an old captain who called himself K, who has a raker (named "genivive's memory" or something, I know the spelling is wrong), that everytime he undocks it from a harbor, he always ended up in the same place, outside of a certain town. I don't know why it occurs, but it happens quite often, and you must make sure that you try not to abuse it (since you are trying to get it fixed, I don't think that will be a problem for you).

I had a character dock in Naron, undock to outside of Siom, dock in Siom, and undock to right back at Naron...

So... ya..

Mm... I'd rather not abuse the system like that. Who can fix this? I've emailed programming, I've flysprayed it, and I've put it up here. I guess the PrgD must be swamped?

It took me a while to get a response, sometimes.

But Jos changed the system recently, in response to the boat warp thing:

As I understand it, when a boat is docked it has one type of location attribute, and a different one while travelling. The travelling one updates once per hour, but the docked one used to update once per day, and your docked attribute doesn't change from the last place you had docked until it's been updated in the next place you've docked.

Jos changed the docked attribute to check immediately, instead of once per day, so the warping-memory thing shouldn't happen again. It didn't for me, at least. It got fixed.

Well, it's not working for me. Not yet anyways. I just don't want my char to starve while this is being worked out. So I'm going to dock the boat... I hope that doesn't screw things up more.

I was just having a think about this after reading several posts about having multiple docking options when the warping occurs. Could it be that some of the extra options are somehow 'leftover' from the previous place the boat undocked from, and maybe also screwing up the valid options at the same time?

So even when a seemingly valid option is picked it actually thinks your undocking from the previous place and, zap, your warped back to the coast just off that previous place.

The warping problem seems to be particularly common with boats which have recently been travelling whilst docked to a larger boat (Are there any exceptions?)

I imagine that peculiar situation of being docked and also travelling at the same time might well have something to do with it.

I have a large boat which has traveled a lot carrying a smaller boat which has undocked and redocked with it several times. Never had any problems at all.

Ditto.
