I am a little bit hazy about what is allowed in some circumstances. Are we allowed to use the following words and phrases, and is there any guidlines for determining what is allowed?

Zen (has religious related definition)
Blase (foreign word that has made its way into english language)
Faux pas (another foreign word that has made its way into english language)
Freudian slip (name which refers to an OOC person)
Euclidean geometry (another name which refers to an OOC person)

Any help establishing which are fine to use IC would be appreciated

If no one bitches, it's allowed.

If some one does, it's not.

That's about it. You haven't even touched on the old debates. Is there a sun, do we have arms, do ears come with earrings becuase I can't see them any other way.

Now, I'd like to see Agar's definition made official - I haven't seen it put better anywhere else...

I would just refrain from it all to be safe. There ar eother ways that you could put those that would be hassel free.

Except the foreign words. As long as people know what it means (I must say that I do not) it's fine.

I have to agree with Swymir. And being a senior PD member, I believe my opinion to be a knowledgeable one.

General rules when considering these questions:
1) No ooc religions, or referances to, allowed in game.

2) No references should be made to famous ooc persons. (or unknown ones, but who would know?)

3) Regardless of origin, if a foreign word has been accepted into the English vocabulary, it should be fine. There are tons, and they are so ingrained in most of us, it's hard to sometimes realize they aren't really English. Of course I know they aren't, but you know what I mean.

It's one thing to name your character Fidel Castro *cough* and quite another one to, say, have him be a proto-communist who smokes non-existent cigars.

Or for that matter, to name your character Rick James and have him constantly say, "I'm Rick James..." So stop it, Rick James in Siom. Stop it NOW. :twisted"

One of the magical things about cantr, though, is it can strip the OOC connotations from a name, provided the name is the only part of the character derived OOCly. I don't even blink an eye at the in-game Austin Powers, Jules Verne(s), the late Justin Timberlake (shudder), Kiefer Surtherland (sic) or any of the other in-name-only OOC references in game.

Just don't bring anything but the name

And of course I am 100% in favor of original names over unoriginal ones.

As far as names go, I am set, all of my characters have original names, and some so original that most people don't even try pronouncing them (some of my more unique ones are not on the the list yet such as Zetocet Hevoticile who usually gets called Zeto or Z).

I've had a few unpronounceable char names in my day
And I saw a really interesting one on K-isle not long ago.

My names come straight from the United States Census. It's weird because I picked Bobby Atwell form the census and now I work with a Bobby Atwell. So I kind o flaugh everytime I see him and he has no clue why. I'm not going to tell him of course.
