According to the project I need:

Materials: diamonds (30 grams used of 30 grams needed)
Objects: sabre (0 items used of 1 items needed)
Tools: peen hammer

I have a brand new steel sabre

If I try and use the sabre on the project I get:

ERROR: This project does not need any object of that type.=

If I try and just work on the project as is I get:

ERROR: You need to use 1OBJECT times a(n) #OBJECT# first.=

What am I doing wrong?

Since they reclassified sabres as steel and bronze sabres- they probably forgot to update the data needed for a diamond encrusted sabre.

Nope.
His project must have been started before the change, and diamonds added to it.
Just hope someone who can change it for this instance views the topic, or report it on Flyspray.

...or report to bugs@cantr.net. But preferably flyspray.
