Viewing direction of travellers

I've been trying to track a character for days, relaying on the information of direction in the character description. I don't know if that should be allowed but it's commonly used by others so I'm thinking why not.

If I view my own character's info, it says: "He is walking in direction north-north-west. He is walking at your speed, next to you, facing the direction you are going."

When I view the info of the person I'm trying to track, doing this by clicking on the name in old events, I get the info "is walking in direction north-north-west. is walking slower than you, ahead of you, facing the direction you are going."

When I change my speed to 70%, the target's description changes into:

"is walking in direction north-north-west. is walking at your speed, ahead of you, facing the direction you are going."

By this I assume the target's speed is 70% of mine. The target has a maximum of 5 hours lead. I've been after him for days. According to my calculations I should have reached him already. Either there's something wrong with the display or there are two roads leading in the same direction, thus they should be located on top of each other(???). Like how's that possible? And since when have we been able to see the direction of people on another road? I thought it was only if you are in a location then you can see the directions of people on the roads leading out of that location, but when you go on a road then you only see the directions of the people on the same road.

Hmmm, this appears to be a bug. Seeing someone's travelling info, who's not in range of visibility should not be possible.

An explanation for the effect could be, though, that he reached a location, and continued on another road, indeed. And yes, it's odd that you can see that info for people on a different road, but it's already odd, that you can see that info for people who you can't really see.

About your calculations, I don't know. The information you got could be wrong, of course. Or maybe, your assumption about the other character travelling at a constant speed is not correct. Can't help you there.

But thanks anyway for reporting that bug.

It's ok that you can see the direction of a character who's left town if you were out there to leave the person departing, but did you know that even in buildings when you click on the description of a character that's left out, if the character is travelling on foot then you see the direction? This is commonly used for tracking thieves.

I've never seen anything odd about it; you can track people in real life, and if you know what you're doing you can get a rough idea of how fast they were going. (And even how much they were carrying, etc.)

Some sort of tracking would be nice but a way that works! :x

It's not an implemented form of tracking, as was just pointed out.
It's a bug. So it's being removed.

I don't think it should be.

It helps make up for the fact that we can't track footprints or see onto roads from town. Which is interesting, because in real life the only roads you can't see onto that leave town are ones with walls and gates, which we clearly don't have.

I think it should stay.

It's a bug. It's not meant to be. Tracking may or may not be introduced. Put that part into the Suggestions Forum.

Sorry, but could you just clarify? We ARE meant to be able to see the relative speed and direction of people close by on the same road aren't we? That part's not a bug.


I think the big problem wit h this speed and direction thing is that it doesn't work at all if you're travelling by bike, so if you lose sight of sombody there's no way of telling if they've shot ahead of you or vice-versa. When I saw the title of this thread I thought somebody had raised that one *sigh * . Any chance of fixing that too? It's absurd.

Close by means at seeing distance, when you can talk to them, point at them and such. But I agree that the bike thing is annoying, if a bike is within shouting distance of people on a lenght of road, the rider should be the stats and direction, clothes, equipment and preferably speed too for the walkers, and vice versa.

I'll just assume that part of your intention was to bring that up. ;)
