Does anybody have any idea how long Cantr will be locked? Are we talking hours, days, or more?

We're talking weeks. I estimate that it'll stay locked at least ill the weekend.

I'll keep you updated in this thread, if we have better estimates.

Would it be possible to put some kind of notification on the front page, before the login page? For impatient people and those who don't visit the forums so that they won't waste their time by repeatedly trying to login to a locked site.

Is this the long awaited server upgrade?

The note when you logged in said it was partly because of the lag, and the begining of the transfer, which is also affected by the lag

Thanks Thomas. Would it also be possible to email everybody to keep them up to date? Some of us will need to log-in ASAP, once it's running, to complete actions we already started. One of my characters, for instance, was in the middle of handing out food to the sleepers in her town. It would be pretty ironic if they starved on account of the long-awaited server change after surviving so much. Maybe the next meal-time could be delayed a bit to give us all a chance to get straight? There was one imminent, just as it closed.

When I go to the Cantr page I see this:

Please note that we currently experience some bad server performance. We are in the process of finding an alternative server, but until then, the server will be dramatically slowed down. Please be patient and know that it will be solved in the near future. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

When I try and log on I see this:

ERROR: You did not login correctly or your login expired. Please re-login.

The forum message said that the system would be down until at least the weekend so I am assuming that this is the promised server move.

I know there was a message that the server move would be in a week of so but since I have become addicted to this game I was hoping for a more direct confirmation so I could stop shaking!!!

;)

Yep, well that's the prolem in a nutshell. That's going to frustrate an awful lot of people. The fact is, we're used to seeing that message, by now, and just take it as a symptom of the usual problems. There is a much more informative error message, but as I pointed out here

http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4322

some genius put it where you have to log in to read it!

The login problem was an unrelated corruption of a table. It's fixed.

I agree, that it would be kind of strange to put up a message for people about the game being locked, while they cannot see it, because the game is locked.

We're not that kind of a genius, though, julie. Your remark appears to be a bit premature.

im just glad the login prob was fixed. not that it matters now though cos of the very good timing of the locking. well for me anyway. not been able to get on much recently.

im gonna have to look on the forums a bit more often though to keep a check on whats going on. :)

Important question...does locked just mean that players can't get at it, or does locked mean that it's actually shut down and time stopped?

If it means the first, please switch it to the second...so many ways people would get messed up by being unable to control their characters as time progressed for several days.

Judging by the performance of the forums I'm afraid it's the latter.. :(

Hey, I can, indeed log in now. Thanks! Not that it matter to me, either, but it matters quite a lot to those who don't yet know, I would guess.

Just about everyone is that kind of genius on occasion, I've found, so no offence was intended in supposing that the Programming Department could be just as daft as the rest of us. That kind of thing is blazingly obvious when you put it down in a coherent sentence, but not necessarily so when you're working on a problem by breaikng it down into component parts. That's my theory, anyway. I'm pleasantly surprised to find there's no call for it, for once.

Anyroad, the main thing is we're all informed now. Thank you.

That is indeed not the case now: (Regarding your "Hey, I can, indeed log in now. Thanks!" comment. :) )

Cantr II is temporarily offline as we are in the process of moving to a new, larger, faster server. Once the server is back up, we will inform all players by email. If you are a new visitor to the site, please do not give up and come back in a few days! Cantr is too cool to miss ;) ...

The Cantr II discussion forum will be online a bit longer than the main site, but will also go offline for a while at some point.

We apologise for any inconveniences caused, especially for the more addicted players among us ;) ...
