stupid newbie questions

Hi
I just started playing cantr a few days ago and now i have some questions. I think i have read all the rulepages but i havn't found the answers there. Maybe the questions are so stupid that nobody botherd to write the answers down :D but ifigured it's better to get it right from the start than having a bunch of people angry at me in game...
Well anyway, here goes:

1. I read somwhere on the forum about food and what to eat and i think the answer was to ask about it ingame. So i was wondering what my character knows from the begining? I gathered food without asking how to do it (i figured it out ooc :) ).
Maybe that wasn't such a big deal but i was also wondering what the rules are about tools and stuff. Does my character know what i need to make a shield? does he know he needs a knife? There are ofcourse instructions on the buildings menu but why should my character know this from start?

2. this is also about something i read in the forum. It's about *asterixes* I got the impression from what i read that using *asterixes* was against the rules? is that the case or is it a misunderstaning on my part? i only ask since alot of people seems to be doing it where my character is...

1. It's usually ok with the simple things to know about the tools and such, but with the complicated ones it's more difficult to decide. Maybe you gain the knowledge with age. When you're just spawned, you shouldn't go asking right away how can I make steel or build a car though.

2. No, using the asterisk or roleplaying is certainly not against the rules. Some people just have a problem with it because people could for example play that they have items they really don't have, or things that don't even exist in Cantr world at all. Or some jerk might write *burns the town with a lightning strike* but people wouldn't have to play along with that since buildings cannot be destroyed in this point and the person has no power to call the lightning. But spicing up the world with small motions that aren't included in the programming is perfectly alright.

Not stupid questions at all, Rainking. If you have any questions, ALWAYS ask! Either email the players department, or ask here on the forums.

Seko seems to have covered everything pretty much, there.

And welcome to the game!

Hi, I'm new too and I didn't want to start another thread :P

I was just wondering... I'm working on a project with someone, but every once in a while, even though I'm still shown as participating to the project, it says "You do not have the right tools to work on" blabla... is it a bug or do we need 2x the tools to work at the same time?

(I'm sure we have all the tools, it worked fine when working alone)

To work on a progect that requires a tool you need to have it in your inventory. hope that helps.

Astericks generally convey actions. The main problem people have with them, that Seko failed to mention, presumably because she occasionally does so herself, is that some people convey too much information;

*stands and looks at Jane, knowing that he did indeed kill that man*

Now, he didnt actually say he killed someone. But you know. Not the best example, but you'll see what I mean in game, eventually. As a safe rule; don't convey emotions in actions. If you role played your actions correctly, the emotion should be properly interpreted.

*stomps towards Bob*

is a lot better than;

*his mind fills with anger as he stomps towards Bob*

You should be able to tell that the character is angry because they were stomping, not because they emoted it.

To clarify on madprofit's explanation, every particpating character needs a set of all tools required.

And glad to see another French speaking person (presumably, if you're from Québec and don't spell it Quebec). Be sure to create a few French speaking characters!

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know

And yes, I did create a french character :)

I'm looking forward to meeting some dutch people, the language mix sounds like a lot of fun to RP (I don't know a single word of it)
