ERROR: You can only hunt this pack of animals once per day

How often is once per day? I have one character who last hunted on 890-9, and another who last hunted on 890-8. So presumably they should have been able to hunt again on 891-9 and 891-8 respectively, yes? But it's now 892-2, and I'm still getting the message "ERROR: You can only hunt this pack of animals once per day."
So is "once per day" really "once per day and several hours"? This discrepancy has existed as long as I've been on Cantr.
