Questions from a newbie

Is there anyway to find out what things do without having to manufacture them first? Is there anyway I can know how to make one resource into another, e.g. cotton to cotton cloth without guessing by building some machines first? And is there anywhere I can read which resources are natural and which are produced, e.g. is timber a natural resource or made out of wood?
Are these questions that I am supposed to find an answer to in the game?

It is my understanding that you are supposed to have to experiment with machines in-game. But mostly people guess from the name or use OOC knowledge, I suspect.
I'm not an authority, though.

Your characters have to find for themselves. You could always try asking someone IC if you don't want to experiment.

Neither am I, but i think we both have enough cantr experience to know.
Welcome to Cantr.
Try and find out in game. You can talk and ask your other neighbors. Just by scanning projects you'll find out that stuff like iron which is rare is worthy for many items; and that you can not progress much without a hammer/stone hammer.
Good luck, and have fun,
Jon
Edit: Ah didn't notice the post above until after posting.

But chances are, when someone answers you, the character answering has never seen the machine. Or perhaps they just 'intuitively' realized that the stone table was needed for ....... (not that you can't find that elsewhere on the forum).
Could someone move this topic? I don't think it belongs in the support forum.

In my opinion this is very much a support topic. What else it would be?

General Discussion. Support is for problems with the 'mechanical' operation of the game, not problems with the concepts of the game.
If I'm wrong, anyone who knows better is welcome to crush my foolish interpretation.

Originally, this was a support topic.
Now with all the chitchat, which I am now guilty of too, it is yearning away-

Another question, is it possible for a character to die out of natural causes? Old age?

You can die from not eating... I suppose that's natural.
And supposedly characters also die eventually of old age but no one is old enough yet for that to happen.

Old age is supposed to exist too, but the game hasn't been running long enough for anyone to die of it yet.
"Sleeping Sickness" might also be considered natural causes...

Yeah, laziness is natural...
