Can't Tame Animal

On one of my characters, the sabre-toothed cat is showing as tameable but I am unable to generate a project to tame it upon clicking the taming button.
I figure it's one of two issues, but I'm not sure which.
1. Cat's not supposed to be tameable, the "Taming" button being colored is a bug.
2. Cat is supposed to be tameable, but something's going wrong after I push the button.
All the other animals in the area have the expected coloration of the Taming button - the ones I know are tameable from the wiki, have the button colored, and the others have it greyed out.
