I have a character in a town, that knew another person well. The other person was very healthy one day, and dead the next, with no attacks or other explanation. The person was young. Is there other ways for characters to die that I am not aware of?

Maybe he sent an email to the PD and asked for that character to die, so he did? Something like that.
It makes for a more dramatic exit...

More than likely- it was an account cancellation.

So then my question becomes: Why does an account become cancelled, and more importantly, how do we avoid that if we don't want our account canceled?

Well, you could cancel it yourself... press the unsubscribe button, Yesterday or something I think 4 people died instantly that was witnessed by my chars, it was pretty sad, everyone was crying... Then I had o delay my chars actions for the funerals and stuff...

To intervene before strange theories come up here: An account does usually not get cancelled by any Game Administrator.

More likely explanations for a disappearing account are:
  • The user has not logged in for more than 14 days, in which case the account gets removed automatically. Before that action is taken, though, a notifying mail is sent out, to allow the user to save their account.
  • The user unsusbscribed at free will.

I does make you wonder sometimes why someone would go through all the trouble to have an established character and then just pull the plug.

I guess you just have to assume they had a good reason.

I agree Cherize. I also wish they could have said goodbye or in one of my chars cases the person who died could have passed on his responsibilites to someone as to make things a little easier. Now things or sad and confusing.

Thanks Thomas, I didn't want to start a conspiricy theory, but I saw about 4 well established characters drop. I was the lackey of one of them, so now my character is suddenly without any kind of supplies.

Still makes me wonder why they didn't try settling thier affairs first. I would have liked that more, but to each thier own.
