...what happens to the saddle? Better yet, what happens to everything on board? Does it teleport to the end of the road or end up in the rider's inventory? What if there's a cart? What happens to that?

I witnessed this happen. The horse, saddle and saddlebags vanished. The rider and the items inside the saddlebags teleported.
