This button is not visible anymore even when my char is not working on any projects. Highly inconvenient.

Probably they turned it off so that no one could grab and kidnapped anyone when people celebrate New Year.

That seems unlikely, certainly as new years isn't at the same time for everyone

So maybe they turned it off for 24 hours or something? ^^

Yes - it seems both the participate button and the drag button are missing from the People page.

They are still there in the character description page though

If that's not fixed or something else turned up I'm not sure.
Now i can't use the X to stop doing my projects. I click activity after and click to participate with another project, I cannot cos i'm already on the project i was doing. Yet I stopped but it didn't register.
IG I can solve it moving inside a buiding, only now i'm off that project.

One of my characters tried to join a project today, and the Projects page had all the Participate buttons on there even though I was already working on another project (something I had conveniently forgotten until I clicked one of the Participate buttons and it told me I couldn't join a project while already working on one). In the past, the participate button wouldn't show up if I was already working on something. Could this be related or is this a feature whose implementation I missed?

Thanks for posting this. I've noticed something was off, but couldn't put my finger on what it was.

You're right. This must be a recent change; I don't think it was intentional.
