How many times does a character have to attempt to break a lock before he/she can ask for assistance..?

On the 14th attempt now... I could have built another extension in less time than it's taken to bust this open... Argh!

I once succeeded on 14th attempt. That was really getting on my nerves. There should be some sort of a hard cap.
