Language Rules Question

Okay, I realize that my character can't learn another language unless xe actually meets someone who speaks it and roleplays learning the language.
The question:
Is it acceptable for my character to invent a language? Obviously I can't make xer "invent" any language that exists in real life because that would be OOC. The other thing is that it wouldn't be just "oh, I made a new language, I'm going to randomly use it now", I'd plan to make the character actually roleplay deciding words for things, and making notes on how xer language works. Would this be a thing that's okay for me to do?
(I really hope this is the right forum for this post, I'm not entirely sure where to put it, or whether to use a contact someone link or what)
