skill drop

Postby freiana » Sat Jun 01, 2013 11:47 am

A char of mine used to be an expert fighter, then after a month or so of sailing her skill dropped to efficient. I figured she must've been just above the expert line and dropped to just below the skillful line, but after quite a lot of training she still is just efficient. Could this be some sort of bug?

Skills shouldn't deteriorate, so it sounds quite weird. Are you sure that they were really expert in the first place? Turn reports that says so, for example.

I'm fairly sure... I'll start digging through turn reports.

Are you sure that you didn't trying at you own character? When you attack youself, you skill is higher than when you attack someone else. Try attack youself and check that skill is an expert.

Does it really work like that? I thought it only makes you novice if you're awkward and that's all.

I'm starting to wonder if I just misread it all the time... My brain is just weird, apparently. Sorry

No idea, I know about this only from experience, not from code ;)

I looked at the code some time way back and when attacking yourself, something has a minimum value of 3333 instead of 0 to ensure injured and awkward people have a chance of kiling themselves.

There was a recent (?) accepted and implemented suggestion that you should always hit when attacking yourself. That's all info I could find on the forums. I have no time to check the source code right now.

I have had this happen a long time ago. I had an expert digger who dropped to awkward suddenly. This was years ago but it did happen. Maybe it is some kind of bug.

If you are an awkward fighter you will become novice when you hit yourself, but this only applies to awkward fighters.
