Question about collecting nuts

I've read the newspaper and registered for this forum since I started and still at 0.00% progress collecting 1 gram. I did get to about 13% when I was trying to collect 1000 grams but stopped because it was taking too long. Where are the 130 grams of nuts I should have? And the oil I was digging up for about two days, where's that? My inventory has one envelope, that's it.
A quick check before hitting Send and yes, the progress for collecting 1 gram of nuts is still at 0.00%

You don't actually get the results of a project until you finish the project. If you had set it at a low number and giving it multiple repeats, you would have gotten smaller amounts at a time.
Not sure what's going on with the 1 gram project.

If the 1 gram project is at 0, cancel it (assuming nothing has been added to it, which there won't be in collecting nuts) and try a higher number, something that might actually give it some meaning in terms of being a better proportion to the amount achievable in a day?
Just a stupid question though... forgive me. Are you actually participating in it too..?

It's pretty silly to set up a project for 1 gram. I'm not sure but it might result in 0 grams if you get the -20%, assuming it rounds it down. You need to be working on the project when the project tick happens, which happens every 3 hours real time. If you get the Cantr enhanced greasemonkey script, it will show you when the next tick is about to happen, so you'll know when is a bad time to move. If you want a project that will last 1 hour, you should divide the amount you get in a day by 8, and if it turns out that you're awkward at it, reduce it by maybe 20%, or by 10% if you're novice at it. Test different amounts to find the optimal number. Or you could just accept that it generally takes several days to get anything valuable and you can't always be optimal.

The 1 gram was to see if I would ever get anything. I had tried it before with 100 grams and 10 grams and had the same result.
I'm not participating when I type in the amount and then click on Continue?? What do I have to do then?
I'm trying 25 grams now which is supposed to take an hour. What is the project tick?

The project tick is currently at 32 minutes after the hour, cantr time. You should be able to get the 25 grams in one hour...make sure it says just below your location that you are currently working on collecting nuts and you should be good.

Don't know if this should be a different thread but how do I get tools? Are there places where you can sell stuff to get money?

Most towns don't have a monetary system in place, and people barter instead or exchange services for items. Your best chance is probably asking Could I work for someone to earn (insert tool name here)? Or Could I trade nuts for a (tool)? But be prepared that most things cost at least 2 days.

No, not always. You need to see that you are actually working on it on the project line in your character screen. Else press activities and find the project you want to work on and press P.
