Cantr II Discussion Forum

The forums will be changing servers in hopes to fix the random crashes that have been happening. These problems, from what I can tell, are the result of configurations from the hosting company relating to CPU/Memory usage and the size in which the forum's database has grown to(just over 800 megabytes).

I am setting up the new server and creating a copy of the existing forums. I will then do testing to ensure that this change actually is for the better. At this point I will talk with Jos about putting the forums offline, moving it all over, and then having whomever change the DNS information to point to the new server. There should be at most 1 day of downtime while this happens. I'm really only expecting 2-3 hours.

I will update the title of this topic with the date when a date has been decided.

From my testing, things seem to be working well. Searching doesn't cause any errors and functions within the administration pages will come to a completion that previously wouldn't.

The forums will be going down probably about 10-11 PM (EST -5) on Friday and come back up early the next day. That's Saturday at about 3-4 UTC.

Just a reminder. The forums will be going down in the next 6 hours, roughly.

The forum server movement has been completed. Since I live in a different timezone than Jos and he is the only one that can change the server DNS I have temporary url set up until then. Please keep trying forum.cantr.org as it will come to these forums once working.

I have also added another layer of spam filtering to the site. It's sorta dumb, but apparently it works pretty well. On the user registration page, the forums ask if the the account is a BOT or Spam, if they answer YES, the registration is denied.

IMPORTANT!

Since not all DNS servers are updated, not everyone can access the forums. And some times you will be redirected to the old forum with the temporary link to the new forum. To solve the problem, put the IP address in your address bar instead of the URL, like this:

http://173.212.229.176/

I've made this a regular ole thread, now that the forums are moved.

For me neither.

I still browse to the ip-address. forum.cantr.org still shows the temporary redirect page.

Working for me now.

And suddenly, it stopped working for me :/
