Notes in ASCII format are not copyable. You need to change the format to UTF-8 on the original note before you can copy it. If your text gets truncated when you convert, you can do the following after converting back to ASCII:

1) Edit the note and save it. This automatically converts it to UTF-8 without truncation.
2) Convert it to another encoding. Windows encoding usually works (use only if the note is uneditable).

I realize this is a very large (and unacceptable) inconvenience, and that I'm going to be repeating this until every single note in the game is converted manually by the players, but it's not something that's in my control to fix.

Doug,

Probably inappropriate to bring it up here, but it's in General Support, so..

My character took a copy of all notes after a character passed away. Later I realised I had a hundred blank notes, and by the time I tried picking up the others to convert, another character had stolen all the evidence. It's very frustrating, losing all this potential evidence and history.

Is there no way to mass-convert all notes classed as ASCII in the database, to UTF-8 ??? Surely there's gotta be a way.

This was done originally, but when the Black Atlas text truncated, the conversion was reversed and nothing further was done. On the whole, in regards to playability, I feel we are much worse off now than before the conversion, at least the English registered players. I've had to repeatedly tell people in-game how to work around this, and it's quite frustrating, and as you cited, is having a dramatically negative impact on Cantr's society.
