Do radio repeaters work?

About a year ago there was discussion of a problem with radios. I think it was causing lag, or something like that. I've tried searching on keyword "radio" but that discussion doesn't come up (only messages dated 2010 or pre-2005). Anyway, my recollection (probably faulty) is that repeaters were deactivated. This simplified radio communications and eliminated the problem (or so I recall).

I am a little vague about this because at the time none of my characters had access to a radio. It was of little relevance to me so I didn't pay much attention to it. However, I now have a character that has a radio and a transmitter and would like to build a repeater to expand his coverage. So, the question is: do radio repeaters actually work? Are the details about repeaters in the Wiki correct?

I'm pretty sure repeaters do work.

However, what do not work are ship radios (both receivers and transmitters). They get stuck to some point, possibly where they were first built, and only change when some queries are run manually.

If this is true, Seko, we should fix it or make them unmanufacturable.

I've been thinking of adding the queries I've occasionally used in the database to the sailing script but I've been worried that it might cause lag or have other unpredictable results. It's worth a shot though.

If it does, you can always take it out.
