Renaming Buildings & Vehicles

I've noticed lately that you can rename a vehicle or building without "carrying any tools suitable for altering signs." The game lets you change it to whatever you like, then displays that new name, with the original sign(s) below.

Is this a new and desirable change? Also, can other characters now see that new name? I've renamed some ships and denoted them as pirate ships, but I'm assuming that's just for my benefit, like personal descriptions for other characters. If the new name is only being shown for your characters, how do you tell which ones you've changed and which are the real names?

There are signs and dynamic names. Initially, the sign and the dynamic name is the same. When you rename the dynamic name, the sign remains in [blue text] under your dynamic name. As you said, the dynamic name is for your benefit only. If you want the name changed for everyone, you need to alter the sign.

Do you think that could lead to nameless building projects and having to "rewrite" a name with tools to give it a sign? Sort of like new locations are unnamed until you find out or someone tells you what it is. Same with vehicles?

I always presumed there was a sign of some description already on the buildings giving names.

I assume each building either has a plaque on its door that has the name or a GIANT SIGN that's all 'LOOK HERE THIS IS THE NAME!!!!!!"

Is this a concern or a suggestion?

Either way, I don't think it's possible, since you need to click the name to rename it, dynamically or with a sign, so there always has to be a name.
