building lock on a boat

I just finished a longboat in the Longinazy Forest and undocked to build the lock and received the message "ERROR you must be in a vehicle to build a lock.
I didn't want anyone to hop on and hijack me and my boat!
Other characters have done projects on boats is this a bug?

Sort of a bug yes.
It is hardcoded in the game that only buildings and vechicles can have loacks. While boats while listed as vechicle they are their own special type.
This was not an issue for longboats in the past becuase the locks used to come with them. It only became an issue when the lock think was changed.
Realted to this right after that change occured someone stole a boat using a crowbar. That never worked but I belive they were the first one hit by the bug.
So I guess it's a bug.

Seems like it is only a misleading error message. Whatever we think we are actaully doing to build a boat lock it must be done when docked.

I've run into it before, just exit and renter the boat and it seems to fix itself.

Kinda hard to exit the boat if you're undocked though...

True, just gotta wait til you dock again, that's what happened to one of my chars. Tip: Start the lock before you undock
