Question concerning CR

Hypothetical situation: A character is being held against his will, with no hope of rescue or being discovered. The captors have gained their power through all manners of criminal activity. He's given a choice, become a slave and work for the rest of his life, or die....
This seems extremely wrong to me, and is ruining the ability of this character to play the game to his own ends and goals.
Am I right in assuming there's no way out of this? The CR prevents any other characters in the game to act, since they'd have no way of knowing?
I know this sounds cliché.....but it's SO UNFAIR!!!!

Umm... it's a game? Why you get angry about such things? I would be glad if my character were one of yours! Why? Because it's chance to have a great Role Play! Just try it! Your character may try various things, it doesn't mean he is "grounded". Just think about it like this and you will have a nice game, really.

I have a charrie that's been in a cargo hold as a slave and hasn't seen the light of day for like... 10 cantr years, most likely more.

Some what happened to my character, was held as a prisoner for at least half a year and had to be a slave. Really, it is fun if you ever get out, you have to find a way to rp a character like that. My character went insane when she got out, ran away and was killed.
Never know what might happen, but this is a society simulation game remember. Try to see what happens before giving up on the character.

Do you mean one of your other characters?

Sure, could be. Or someone elses character....but regardless of who's it was, it would be a CR to act on it, right?

yep, you got it.
This just made me think how great cantr would be for people with Dissociative Identity Disorder. Each personality has its own identity even if they all belong to the same body/mind.

One of my character was recently killed by a foreigner, and I have no idea why.
He'd been away for a while and when he returned to his birthplace all his countrymen were gone and there was a foreigner trying to say something to me. I just said I didn't understand him. He shot me with crossbow 55% damage, then dragged me into locked building. Next day he kills me.
Luckily my char was pretty boring and new anyway so I don't mind much, but still it sucks. I didn't even get a chance to roleplay before he was dead. If it had happened to my mapmaker or blacksmith I'd be really pissed...

Rob, it is depressing, especially if it's your first char, but Cantr is supposed to be as realistic as possible, (notwithstanding all the weirdness due to game mechanics,) and life ain't fair.
The easy, boring, unsatisfactory way out is simply to send that char to sleep, but if you can manage to figure a way of getting away, it'll be a great boost.

If you were a slave you could attempt to ask someone to help you without your master seeing you and that person can help you escape. But using one fo your own charries to liberate your slave charrie is CRB

Just hang in there redRob, several things could happen eventually. Someone could die, altho if you're locked up this might prove fatal to your char as well. Work with them and try to make a deal, if they want you to work you can try to threaten with suicide cos they need you alive. If you have access to a large amount of resources, hide or so, think of what you can do by handing it to them when they are asleep and working. Or you might try and see what happens if you consistently irritate or charm them.
Or of course let it go and spawn a new character.

Yeah, we already know how great Cantr is for sociopaths.
