Buildings and roads

Currently im in a nice area which has a building with "public" use machines.

The only problem is i cant find a way to enter a building! do i need a key or is there a way to enter a building i havent found yet?

also 2 of the roads in my location dont have the "walk this way" button (i know thats not the name but you get the idea!) what is wrong with these roads? one is a paved road and one is a sand road.

Sounds like you're currently working on a project. You should see a horizontal bar in the middle of the screen that says the name of the project followed by a button with an X. Click the x to end your participation. After this you can enter buildings and go to roads. If you want to pick up the project later on, go to Activities tab and you should see it there, provided that you started it. If it was someone else's project, then you need to use search.

makes sense that i cant chop wood and be in a house!
