Spanish?

xxxx: a man in his twenties says: "*rie* si necesitaria saber de que modo se manejan aqui, y si hay alguien que sea lider o algo por el estilo"
In Olip... He spawned a day or two ago. Doesn't it say you're supposed to have knowledge of a language in order to spawn in that language zone? Just wondering.

I bet they just accidentally chose the wrong language group, since English and Espanol start with the same letter. In any case, the character should not be there (unless there were Spanish visitors in town lately, which I doubt). Everyone who replies to him in Spanish or says they can understand what he's saying is committing a CRB because I think there's no way they could've learned Spanish in game.

Mmh, check for Spanish sailors. Olip is easily reachable, I know it, I sailed there once.

No... he spawned. I saw him do it.

I think Arlequin means that if Spanish sailors had passed Olip recently, it could've prompted a Spanish player's char to spawn there. If I recall correctly, they don't even have to dock to a location, just passing near enough can open the town for a spawn from their language group. It is possible someone just got an unlucky spawn or that the player mistakenly clicked.

Incredibly unlucky hahaha... Well it would make for interesting RP...
@Arlequin, sorry for misunderstanding.

I understand that it's a problem if a spanish-speaking character spawns in Olip, but I had no idea it was a CRB to speak a language other than your native one in game. Do we really have to go that far?

Your chars can learn languages in game, but they spawn knowing only one. This is true even in the multilingual zones, and even for players with fluency in more than one langauge. You need to rp an active language learning process for a period of at least 3 cantr years before your char can start generating the new language fluently. You may, however, emote in any common language.

Are those 3 Cantr years an official rule now?

Minimum of 3 cantr years of active in-game learning, is what we've been working with, yes.

Does that mean that if I have a character who has lived among foreigners for over ten years and studied the language, it would be legal to use off-game dictionaries/translators?

I think yes, as players who spawn chars in languages they wish to practise have these kinds of tools available. And Cantr is great for language learning. It's the best part of the game for me now. I guess the point is that there can be an advantage for multilingual players, and providing at least some in-game RP'd learning can make it more fair for all. Personally, I would like to see the possibility of multilingual spawns, but that's not currently allowed.

It's possible that foreign charries were there. There were some sailing down the coast in cities near there recently.
