Do Machines or other stationary things built inside of a vehicle or building 'take up room'? ie: if I build a smoker inside of a cart, will the minuscule room it offers be consumed by the construction of it?

I think that the weight of a machine or a piece of furniture is (usually if not always) the sum of resources used to make it. Only clothing and notes are weightless. So if you got a smoker inside a cart, that will consume 1100 grams of space. Also if you have a project for a smoker that hasn't been finished, that will still take the same space.

Seko is correct. It removes weight capacity equal to the weight of the resources. (In almost all cases)
