troubles starting project

Sorry if this problem has already been reported, but if it did I could not find it.....

I often have troubles about starting a new project. One of the must puzzling is this one : I had to fetch water with a bucket. So, I took the bucket on the ground, and I started the project. After that I received every hour the same error message "you don't have the right tools..." and the project still remain at 0%.

With another of my character, I wanted to make a simple hide dress. I had everything needed to start the project, I started it, but.... the project bar don't appear on my charachter page (just like I'm doing nothing). However the project is there, if I look in the activity page. I have to click "participate"... to make the project bar finaly appear ! :?

It doesn't automatically add resources to clothing projects so it can't also automatically make you work on that project. I don't know about the water fetching project.

The bucket has to be in your inventory.

Well didn't he just say he took the bucket which was on the ground? This leads into the bucket being in his inventory. Unless there is already a project for the bucket in another location (since it's a portable machine).

I took the bucket on the ground?

meaning:
I took the bucket from the ground
or
I put the bucket on the ground

I'm just guessing 8)

Huh, I didn't know that. That could be the problem. A regular machine that can't be held has an "in use" label when it is in use. Maybe the game is keeping track of the bucket being in use, but the player has no easy way to know.

"Took" is the opposite of "put," so I am guessing that he doesn't mean "put." I assume he means that he took the bucket that was lying on the ground.

Ok, I have to be clearer. :)

That's what i try to do to fetch water :
1) I have the bucket in the inventory
2) I put it on the ground
3) in the object page, I click on "use it"
4) then the project is supposed to be in progress...
5) but later (more or less one hour) it says "you don't have the right tools". No progress.

The portable machines have this feature. They must be used as their own tool. You set the machine down to start the project, but then you must pick it up again to join the project successfully. This was done to avoid certain problems, but has enabled portable machines.

It might be like some of the food mixing projects where you have to drop the bowl, start the project, then pick it up again.

I changed the Wiki entries for wooden bucket and iron bucket. If there are other portable machines, someone should update those entries. Not to mention providing some in-game instructions for something that isn't obvious.

The portable cookers are also this way, mixing bowl, tajine and propane campstove. You set it down to start the project, then pick it up to work on it. And there will not be instructions in game, your chars need to figure it out from others.

Well, at least someone's happy! Good point Kristof, only players who've seen this or something similar before will get how this works. Maybe some text can be added? When you start the project from when the bucket is sitting on the ground, you'll click use and then on thát page that is generated.
