I am new to Cantr and I had just started and I didn't know anything about what I was doing and I was looking around and doing other things at the same time and I left it alone for a few minutes and when I got back I found myself in jail for
--Not giving my name
--Taking potatoes I didn't know I couldn't take.
Will I be left to rot until I die or is there any way I can get them to let me out. I believe the lady that put me in there came back to the prison and attacked me again and I wasn't even on at the time and she was gone by the time she was gone.
Does anyone have any ideas? I apologize if this in the wrong place or not allowed I just want help
Unable to leave Prison

How should these things be handeled?
New players that do not know how the game is played. Get's their characters punished for obeying the local law. Just because they are new and dosen't understand the game fully.
Those new players are likely to leave the game if their characters gets killed for not knowing the game.
Is there a way of tagging characters that belong to a new player?

In that situation, you might try putting your char's name on a note and sliding it under the door. Maybe include an apology, beg for your life, or whatever is within the personality of that char. It could be difficult for you to be online to introduce yourself at the same time someone comes in to check on you.
Some places are more strict with their laws than others. When I spawn a new char, I usually introduce myself first then read the laws to find out what I can and can't do there before I do anything else.

This is a very common experience for chars of new players. We can't tell you what will happen to your char because that town is different from every other town in Cantr. It is controlled by chars who are played by individual players and each char has his/her own personality.
It could be that the person who hit your char just likes to kill people whenever she has an excuse. Or she could be nice and let you out after she reads an apology note. That's the fun of Cantr...you just never know what chars are going to do.
You also get to decide how your char reacts to the situation. Is he rude and defiant? Scared but brave? Simpleminded and clueless? Cowardly and groveling? Roleplaying how your char meets death can be really fun.
If you char dies don't give up and don't take it personally. You'll have lots of opportunity to make new chars. You might want to read this page: http://www.cantr.net/mwiki/index.php/Yo ... _Cantr_Day
Some of the info needs to be updated due to changes in the game mechanics but it has good advice for new players.
Welcome to Cantr!

One of the first characters I ever had experienced something like this. It is a common experience. The best thing to do in order to avoid it, is doing what I did when I first joined, and read the wiki thoroughly. Now, even the wiki didn't stop my first couple of characters from getting into trouble, but it did prepare me a little. I am sure people get upset and frustrated by what happens to there characters all the time in game. I still do myself, and I have to pull myself away from that grudging anger often.

So what, you see a "tagged" new player and all of a sudden have to change your whole characters personality and NOT kill one or lock them up because they're new and may not understand?
New players maybe could recieve a list of cantr do's and dont's when they subscribe but simply tagging new players and outlining ways to "handle" these kind of situations would force current players to change the way their characters may or may not play out. Could change a characters whole personality. Not vey fair to the older player playing a character out either. A character who's whole attitude is to kill, could see a newspawn new player and all of a sudden, today I have to be good because ..he's a new player. Not a good idea.
These kind of situations are a part of the game. Being locked up, being killed, it's all a part of cantr that we've all had happen. The older players deal with the same situations on a daily basis. The same help and material that is available for the older players is just as available to newer ones. They just don't know it's there or choose not to read it. We just need to find a way to get word out to new players "hey we STRONGLY suggest you take a look at this page because it may save your characters life".

From what I recall, new players are recommended to look at a certain page concerning their first day. All it needs is one line suggesting they look at notes before doing anything else.
Of course many won't look at it, but that is their choice. (I, myself, prefer to go into a game totally innocent, at least until I hit trouble.)
