So, what is happening here? Different roundoff at each place or something else? (Using a stone quarry)

Using a stone quarry might count under 'Drilling' as your drilling is efficient and it's got similar function to building drills like hemtatite drills.

Yep, digging is if you do it by hand.
Drilling is if you do it with a big machine.

Eg:
Dig by hand for limestone/coal.
Drill on a limestone quarry for limestone, and on a coal drill for coal.

Stone, Copper, Magnesium and Heamatite all similarly have a machine that involved drilling, but are dug by hand, I believe.

Just to confuse things:
Clay and sand have a machine you can build, but that still uses digging.
And oil uses Drilling whether or not you do it by hand...
And Bauxite and Nickel have a machine that uses drilling, but by hand you use mining, so it says in the Wiki... :?

Actually, that's really rather confusing... Drilling copper but mining bauxite...?

Ok, that totally freaked me out for a moment! Since naturally when it says mining, you could assume that mining skill is used (why did you underline digging?) but of course it uses drilling. ...Based on Cantr logic. I don't know the structure of quarries since I've never made one, only knowing that they use ropes, but it sounds like some sort of a machine so using it would require different sort of knowledge than mining by hand. Maybe the skill could be renamed "mechanical mining" or something?

i would of thought that quarrys would use mining skills.

Quarries are huge dug-out areas that make it easier for digging/mining... something kind of like this pic:

Timbers for support of the walls and such.. and ropes for similar things, I guess... Yea, I'd think it would take mining or diggin too. Unless they have something like a jackhammer... It's all just the way Cantr is though.

Well the skills system makes no sense. But then we already knew that.

And i noticed my char was mining for hematite in townsquare, instead of digging for it, i mean it used to be digging, both stone and hematite, no? When you crush hematite the miningskill's applied.

If you character is in the english area (I don't know about the translations in other languages), then they were not "mining" for hematite. While hematite is collected with the mining skill, it displays "digging for hematite" (and hematite has used the mining skill for a very long time). While there are a multitude of skills that can be associated with resource gathering, the project can display only one of five things (dig, farm, collect, pump, and catch). And the displayed skill is assigned independantly of the actual skill. The name of projects started by machines is assigned in an open field, and can therefore be whatever the designer wishes it to be.

Thanks for clearing that up. I assumed it related to the text instead cos my first char has the same skills for mining and digging.

Changed the name of the project to Drilling.

On a related note:

"Digging for cobalt" uses the Mining skill...
