Docking query.

Postby tiddy ogg » Mon Jan 29, 2007 4:08 pm

I'm on a boat, docked to another.
I am between two ports, both of which, from experience, I know are in range of docking.
I undock, intending to dock to one of the ports, but get the message, "there is nothing to which you can dock".
The boat from which I have undocked needs a harbour, if this is relevant.

This has happened before, and I think waiting until the next tick will sort it out. Is this right, or am I being a landlubber?

I believe you just need to wait for the next tick, so it rescans for dockable locations.

I'd guess because you were docked to a boat at the last check, there would be no docking options. Just a waiting game.

I have problems docking too.

A Raker has been build in a beach.
A Longboat with 95% load undocks from the beach and stays floating.
A Raker undocks from the same beach, same direction, and stays floating.
(One point is exactly over the other one in the image).
The Longboat can't dock to the Raker, but can dock to the beach or the harbour. It starts moving away from the Raker.
After one tick, the Longboat can not dock to the Raker, but the beach and the harbour.
(One point is still exactly over the other one in the image).

Is this normal?

Yes, it is normal.

After another tick, the longboat dot was aside the raker dot, and the dock entry appeared. And, after clicking the dock button, the longboat docked instantaneously (actually, 5 seconds).

That sounds strange... It's possible to dock a dinghy to a sloop straight away after launching the dinghy from the shore, provided that the sloop is already floating. I wonder if your case is the way it is because the longboat undocked first, thus when the raker came, it "appeared" after the long boat's docking options had been generated, and that was on the moment of undocking, thus it doesn't quite realize it's there until next tick. But you say it didn't notice it until two ticks away, which sounds rather strange.
