1773-6.03: You see X continuing to dock to Y.
I was rather surprised because I was sure I hadn't noticed it before. And I checked back the events and indeed there were no earlier events on it.
There were events for another ship that had apparently docked on the previous tick (no docking message for harbours, by the way - it's pretty funny that you can see them in process of docking but you only know that they have docked from the fact that the messages stop, and the ship is no longer visible).
Anyway, there were no events for hour 5, and I didn't move during it so if there was an event, I should've seen it.

It probably started the docking from a distance closer than "three ticks". If you have a fast boat and are close enough, docking can sometimes be instant.

Umm, yeah, but in this case it's rather far away and it certainly wasn't instant. Maybe the distance on which docking becomes available is larger than the view range? That would explain it. Since it was pretty much near the edge of the map. --- But the dot representing a boat doesn't move once docking has been initiated, so it must've been within the circle view range when it started docking. If literal view range is shorter than visual view range, that's pretty strange.

I may be mistaken but I think the first notification to shore comes at two (three?) ticks out, so if docking was initiated before that your first message should be 'continues' rather than 'starts'.

That is true sanchez
The "starts" message is broadcast when a docking ship is two ticks away from completion
The "continues" message is broadcast when a docking ship is one tick away from completion - if a vessel starts docking and is only 1 tick away the "continues" message is displayed
